Lately Instagram has been shutting down a lot of bots and now you seem to have less likes and comments. So, as a result, engagement might be lower, but finally your comments are not spammed with random people/bots commenting stuff on your picture that doesn’t even match your post
Of course, this means that you now have to put more work into your account and engage a lot with your audience, to receive engagement back from your target audience.
Apart from being a lot more active within your account, you can implement these three simple steps to get more comments and likes on your Instagram pictures.
Choose your timing wisely
It seems obvious but this is a mistake I still see when working with my clients. If you share a picture at 11 pm your followers will most likely already be in bed (or out partying) and they will NOT comment on your picture.
There are many guides out there that tell you when to post, but it totally depends on your business and your followers. The best way to find out when your audience is online is by adding my favorite tool called Iconosquare. You can get it here.
This tool has many amazing features and one of them is showing your most engaging times.
Also, do some research on your biggest competitors; When do they post and how is their engagement?
Find the best time slots for your followers, because you don’t want to waste your picture and make sure you get as many likes and comments as possible.
I know that finding the right caption can be hard and it is different for every social media platform and again depends on what your followers like BUT if you don’t tell them to comment on your picture, they most likely won’t. If you write the longest caption ever and then ask a question at the end people might not even see it. So try to find a short and catchy caption and then add a question.
Here are some examples:
- Caption: Working from home.
- Caption: Our newest creation …
- Caption: I wrote a blog post about xy on my website.
Plus Question: What is your daily motivational hack?
Plus Question: What do you like most about it?
Plus Question: What topic do you want me to write next?
You may have already seen it on different accounts from bloggers, that they “promote” on their Insta story that they posted a new picture. For example like this:
Now, this might give you some likes but even better (and way more trendier now 😉 ) is to ask your question also in the Instagram story and tell your followers to comment the answer on your latest post.
Here is an example from one of my favorite bloggers:
She shares a post with a caption AND a question
Then promotes her question on the story:
The extra bonus trick:
Tell your followers that you will share the three most fun or interesting answers on your Instagram story. Basically like a “mini-shout”
Again here is the example from the thetrinitraveller
Featuring some accounts and their answers on her story the next day.
