If you have a blog you’ve probably heard by now that Pinterest is a great way to get more traffic. For my travel blog, www.blondeseashell.com Pinterest is my main traffic source BUT it is not the platform where I have the most followers – not at all.
You can easily get traffic to your blog with Pinterest when you start using it as a strategic tool and for that, you don’t even need a lot of followers.
Start with these 3 steps on your Pinterest account.
Step 1: Realizing that Pinterest is more a search engine and not a Social Media tool
Once you realize how Pinterest actually works, you will start using it in a completely different way and therefore be more successful. Yayyy! Pinterest is like Google a search engine tool. So before you put your pin in the Pinterest world, think about SEO like you do when writing your blog post. Keywords, that’s the magic word.
Step 2: Using keywords
What keywords do you want to rank for? What keywords do your potential readers look for? Where can you put your keywords? All these questions you need to ask yourself before you start your Pinterest account and create your pins. This way you can build a strategy that will drive traffic to your website or blog.
Let’s say you own a fashion brand and you sell mostly bikini. How do people find you? What kind of keyword do they type in the search bar:
Simply type a word in the toolbar and Pinterest shows you what is used mostly for that word. My suggestion here is: To not only use bikini because it is mostly also used in combination with fitness.
Also use the keyword swimwear, swimsuit etc. After you have researched your words, you start putting them everywhere you can.
- Your Pinterest bio/description
- Your board description
- Your pin description
Step 3: Sign-up for rich pins
With a rich pin you have the possibility to add even more information to your pins, which means even more room for keywords. There are four types of rich pins and you can choose according to your business type: app, product, recipe and article.
If you are a blogger for example you would choose article and get the “read more” button like I did in the picture below.
If you have a business in the food industry rich pins are a great option to drive traffic to your website. The ingredients will be listed below your pin and instead of the “read more” button you will get a “make it” button.
To sign up for rich pins you need to switch to a business account first. Then you can apply with this link: https://business.pinterest.com/en/rich-pins
It usually takes one or two days until you get the approval.
After implementing these three steps you are on the right way to drive more traffic to your website with Pinterest. Are you looking for more tips on Pinterest and Co. ?
